Spending the snowy and gloomy weekend away from home during Valentine’s and President’s Day weekend might have been a last minute decision, but it was definitely worth it! Lexington, Kentucky is only a short 3.5 hour trek from Columbus, Ohio passing through Cincinnati on the way so it was a perfect weekend getaway with our two little ones.
We stayed at the Hilton Downtown Lexington for its moderate price, great location and, of course, open indoor pool. Unfortunately, after getting suited up and ready for a swim we discovered the pool to be closed due to a mechanical issue. With a toddler and a baby in tow in the dead of winter we needed a solution and fast. Thankfully, the very helpful front desk called to the neighboring Hyatt Regency and was able to get us permission to use their pool. Thanks to the downtown locations, we didn’t even have to go outside because of the city walks!
With the large, warm pool all to ourselves, we were able to splash and play until Piper couldn’t even keep her little eyes open. She LOVES the water and was stoked to use some of her new tricks from swim class. Theo wasn’t as thrilled with the water, having just woken up from a snuggly nap but that didn’t stop us from watching Piper and Daddy have fun playing in the water.
We always travel with lots of snacks since we have the littles, but we did hit a few great restaurants while we were in town and recommend them all!
Pies and Pints, right across from both the Hilton and the Hyatt, grab a pitcher and a slice of pizza. We tried the Chicken Gouda, delicious!
Grab a morning Mocha at Lussi Brown Coffee Bar just a short walk away.
Finally, grab a burger or some fried chicken at the famous Parkette Drive-In featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
All in all we had a rejuvenating trip as a family and enjoyed some much needed togetherness. I think Piper had the best time being able to swim and yell “NEIGH” anytime she saw one of the numerous horse decorations.
